Saktheara (“Lily”) Sok, daughter of Hosanna Chea Sok and Duc (“Stephen”) Le, is a 7th-grade student at North American Martyrs School.
Why was this student nominated? School officials said: “Lily is always volunteering to help her teachers and peers. She is always positive and encourages her peers to see the good in each day.”
Civic and volunteer involvement: Student Council. She also helps give out food for the poor with her grandmother.
Religious activities: She attends daily Mass and volunteers to read petitions. She also leads prayers during holidays.
Hobbies and outside interests: crafting, art, shopping, cooking, baking, and volleyball.

Easton DeLong, son of John and Nicole DeLong, is an 8th-grade student at Dawes Middle School.


Why was this student nominated?: School officials said: “This student has demonstrated incredible growth throughout the year, consistently working to improve both academically and socially. His hard work, positive attitude, and willingness to help others have not only transformed his own learning experience but have also helped his classmates. Now a leader in the classroom, he sets an example of perseverance that has made a lasting impact on our learning community.”

Athletic accomplishments: competes in amateur boxing; earned Most Improved Award in wrestling.

Gabriel Ross, son of Laura Ross, is an 8th-grade student at St. Joseph School.
Why was this student nominated?: School officials said: “Gabriel’s respect for his teachers and peers along with his dedication to his work makes him outstanding.”
Civic and volunteer involvement: Matt Talbot Kitchen volunteer; helps neighbors when needed..
Athletic accomplishments: Has participated in five half-marathons; participates in track and field.
Religious activities: Leadership camp; prayer.
Outside achievements: Drumming award from music teacher.
Hobbies and outside interests: drumming, running, sports.
Evan Wandzilak, son of Brenda and Brian Wandzilak, is an 8th-grade student at Blessed Sacrament School.
Why was this student nominated?: School officials said: “He is a diligent and joyful student who greets each day  with anticipation.”
Awards and recognition: Evan’s team won first place for Field Day. Evan is known by his classmates as “the Boy Scout.” (He holds the rank of First Class in Boy Scouts.)
Civic and volunteer involvement: He is a volunteer at Husker football games and volunteers at local races in which his dad is involved.
Athletic accomplishments: Evan participated on an archery team that qualified for nationals, and he has been a national qualifier in cross country. Recently, he was clocked in 6 minutes, 28 seconds in the mile run.
Religious activities: He serves at every 8:30 a.m. Mass at Blessed Sacrament and is a frequent reader at school Masses.
Hobbies and outside interests: He enjoys playing video games, reading, and playing sports.
Other comments: Evan added: “I am great at following rules and pretty responsible.”
 
Ashlyn Hamilton, daughter of Janee and Mike Hamilton, Martell, is an 8th-grade student at St. Michael Catholic School.
Awards and Recognition: Christian Kindness Award.
Why was this student nominated?:  School officials said: Ashlyn embodies our school motto, “Learn, Serve, Lead, Succeed.” She constantly chooses to do what is right and seeks ways to support others. Ashlyn has a strong work ethic and consistently strives to do her best work, regardless of the size of task. Additionally, she is the kind of person everyone wants for a friend.”
Civic and volunteer involvement: Volunteer at St. Mary’s Church; peer role model for younger students.
Athletic accomplishments: Participates in volleyball, track, cross country, and basketball at St. Michael School; involved in club soccer and club volleyball
Religious Activities: Secret Santa participant for Tabitha community.
Outside achievements: Voted MVP for soccer.
Hobbies and outside interests: hunting, fishing, volleyball, soccer, trapshooting.
Zachary Able, son of Jill and Zach Able, is a 7th-grade student at Saint John the Apostle School.
Why was this student nominated?: School officials said: “Zachary is kind to all and quick to volunteer when someone needs help. Zachary is mature, dependable, responsible, kind, and helpful to classmates and staff. Zachary is such a positive and helpful person. He comes in with a great attitude, is a hard worker, cares about his fellow students, and always offers to help others without needing to be asked. He is responsible and respectful. He is hard-working and humble.”
Awards and Recognition: Zachary has received the Super Server Award and the Christian Courtesy Award. He has been on the JETS Honor Roll and the Principal’s Honor Roll.
Civic and Volunteer Involvement: Zachary has been a Builders Club class representative for two years. He has been in the Youth Choir for three years and Honor Choir for one year. He has participated in the school musical and has helped with the Husker chair backs project.
Athletic Accomplishments: Zachary participates with the Saint John’s Archery Team. He’s played for the Allo football team, wrestles with the Pius Wrestling Club, and he’s placed in the top 6 in the javelin, shot put, and discus events with the Lincoln Youth Track Club.
Religious Activities: Zachary attends daily Mass and is an altar server. Zachary has been a server during a Eucharistic Procession. On weekends, he participates in church cleaning.
Outside Achievements: Zachary is a Leader In Training (LIT) at Camp Sunshine, and has participated in the Pius Performing Arts Camp.
Hobbies and outside interests: Football, wrestling, track and field, singing, band (trumpet), fishing, and the card game Magic the Gathering.
A’niyah Knutson, daughter of Rudi Murphy and Tommy Knutson, is a 7th-grade student at Schoo Middle School.
Why was this student nominated?: School officials said: “A’niyah is kind and polite to everyone. She is a very consistent student. A’niyah works hard, has clear-cut goals, and gives her best effort. We are proud to nominate A’niyah for this award.”
Civic and volunteer involvement: She served as a leader in a  youth program at Schoo, helping other students feel welcomed and helping them make new friends.
Athletic accomplishments: Currently a member of the Surf 12G swim team, competing at a competitive level, and contributing to the team’s success in wins and achievements.
Religious activities: Maintains daily prayer and reflection with family to deepen spiritual understanding.
Outside achievements: Continuously working on her swimming skills and leveling up at Swimtastic swim school.
Hobbies and outside interests: Passionate about soccer, she regularly participates in team practices and weekend games, improving technical skills, strategy, and fitness.
Other comments: School officials added: “She has a natural ability  to connect with people and is always willing to help others. She is a dedicated and compassionate individual. She works hard to achieve her goals, whether it’s in school, sports, or personal projects. She has learned to balance a busy schedule and manage her time effectively between school, sports, and hobbies, ensuring  she stays on top of things. She has a goal to study veterinary medicine in college as she loves animals. She takes pride in being the person she is and her parents couldn’t be more proud.”
Gianna Brack, daughter of Craig and Marika Brack, is an 8th-grade student at North American Martyrs School.
Why was this student nominated?: School officials said Gianna has a positive attitude, friendly personality, is respectful to adults and peers, is willing to volunteer her time to help when needed, and is dedicated to success in her school work.
Awards and recognition: Silver Honor Roll each quarter.
Civic and volunteer involvement: Student Council member.
Hobbies and outside interests: Company Dance Team member at Greater Impact. Loves children and works as a dance assistant for young dancers.
Aiden Carnicle, son of Sara and Brad Carnicle, is a 7th-grade student at Saint John the Apostle School.
Why this student was nominated?: School officials said: “Aiden is willing to help anyone and many times helps without being asked. Aiden is patient and respectful. Aiden is described as mature, kind, responsible and hard-working. Aiden is very polite and respectful to both teachers and students. He works hard, contributes to a great classroom environment. He always has a smile on his face. He is consistently responsible; takes on any task and gives it his total priority. Aiden is very organized and takes pride in his work.”
Awards and Recognition: Aiden has been on both the JETS Honor Roll and the Principal’s Honor Roll.
Civic and Volunteer Involvement: Aiden is treasurer of the Saint John’s Builders Club and has participated in Huskers Helping the Homeless and the STEP-UP for Down’s Syndrome Walk. Aiden is also a JETS Ambassador.
Religious Activities: Aiden attends daily Mass and attends Benediction monthly.
Hobbies and outside interests: Aiden enjoys spending time with family and friends, listening to music, and playing video games.
Macie Beckman, daughter of Aaron and Janet Beckman, is an 8th-grade student at St. Patrick Catholic School.
Why was this student nominated?: School officials said: “Macie is nominated because she is a self-motivated student. She drives her learning process and wants to do well. She is a considerate classroom citizen, always willing to help others. She is friendly and enjoys chatting with students and adults in the school. Macie knows school routines very well and is quick to help get things on track. She is a good friend to others and a positive role model for younger students in the school. Macie sets a great example!”
Awards and recognition:  Pope’s List Honor Roll for all A’s.

Civic and Volunteer Involvement: Volunteers at September Fest at Sacred Heart.

Athletic Accomplishments: Participates on St. Patrick bowling team and is a member of the Storm youth bowling league and Skystrikers bowling league.

Religious Activities: Attends Mass regularly and is a lector for school Masses.

Outside Achievements: Participates in Honor Band and Honor Choir.

Hobbies and Other Interests: writing, drawing, singing, playing the flute.

Additional Information: Looking forward to starting high school next year.

Maddie Bock, daughter of Andrew and Heidi Bock, is a seventh-grade student at Scott Middle School.
Why was this student nominated? School officials said: “Maddie is a true asset to our school community. She’s always ready to lend a helping hand. She excels academically while embodying kindness in every interaction. Her
engagement in class and her knack for problem-solving inspires those around her. Maddie’s positive influence and unwavering support makes our school a better place for everyone.”

Other comments: I really like to travel, bake, paint, do art, knit, and crochet. My family raises chickens and bees in our backyard. I am a citizen of Switzerland. In high school, I want to be involved in pole vault. When I grow up, I either want to be a veterinary technician, a chef, or a marine biologist.
Maria Araya Korn, daughter of Alexis Korn Araya and Josue Araya Ugalde, is an 8th-grade student at Pound Middle School.

Why was the student nominated?:  School officials reported: “Maria is a great leader in the classroom. She exudes sunshine and happiness no matter where she goes or who she is with. Maria is a positive role model and an overall great student. She always gives her best effort. Nothing but positivity from her and always sharing her beautiful smile! Maria is hard working, eager to learn and very kind to everyone she meets or interacts with. 


Other Information: María loves riding her bike and swimming. She enjoys drawing, singing, and playing with her dog, Cookie. Each year during the holidays María travels to Costa Rica to visit all of her dad’s family. 

Charley Carey, daughter of Shanda and Dan Carey, is an 8th-grade student at Blessed Sacrament School.
Why was this student nominated? School officials said: “Charley demonstrates a commitment to excellence in all aspects of her academic career. She embodies diligence and a desire to grow in Christian virtue.”
Civic and volunteer involvement: City Mission serving; Adopt a Family for Christmas.
Athletic achievements: State Junior Girls archery champion; Cheer Team member, went to Summit (nationals) in Orlando, Fla., in 2023; won first place in Mini-Mudder race in Denver in 2022.
Religious activities: serves meals at City Mission.
Outside achievements: attended a leadership institute in 2022; ran several Spartan races; was Science Fair champion in 2024.
Hobbies and outside interests: Pokemon; pickleball; reading; Legos; diamond painting; drawing, and puzzles.

Kalvin Chilombo, son of Karley & Makani Chilombo, is a 7th-grade student at Scott Middle School.
Why was this student nominated? School officials said: “Kalvin is an outstanding student. His respectfulness and engagement are great qualities that contribute to a positive learning environment for everyone around him. It’s always inspiring to see students who not only excel academically, but also demonstrate strong character.”

Tess Mahan, daughter of Jeff and Lori Mahan, is an 8th-grade student at Saint John the Apostle School.
Why this student was nominated?: Middle School teachers and staff said: “Tess is an enthusiastic learner and joyfully helps those around her. She is an organized learner. Tess is
hard-working and compassionate; she is a determined, strong leader. Tess has such a positive attitude and comes in with a smile on her face, she takes on challenges head-on and asks lots of great questions to grow in her knowledge of the subject. She is a very kind friend.”
Awards & Recognition: Tess has earned the Principal’s Honor Roll every quarter during Middle School; she also received the Christian Courtesy Award.
Civic and Volunteer Involvement: Tess volunteers during school functions, helps with church cleaning, and has been involved with Builders Club.
Athletic Accomplishments: Tess attends Club Volleyball Qualifiers and has received multiple Club Volleyball medals.
Religious Activities: She attends Mass regularly and participates in Lectio Divina.
Hobbies & Outside Interests: She participates in VCN Club Volleyball and enjoys fishing and hunting with her dad.
Zoey Michel, daughter of Angela Venema and Kevin Michel, is a 7th-grade student at Scott Middle School.
Why was this student nominated? School officials said: “Zoey radiates positivity and joy, brightening the classroom with her constant smile. Her enthusiasm for learning is infectious, and she approaches every task with engagement and dedication. Kindness is at the core of her interactions, as she treats everyone with respect and warmth. Zoey consistently puts forth her best effort, making her a wonderful role model for her peers.”

Religious activities: Participated in Vacation Bible School.

Anastasia Schreiner, daughter of Chris and Courtney Schreiner, is an 8 th -grade student at Saint John the Apostle School. Why this student was nominated? Middle School staff members said: “Anastasia is a very kind young lady. She is a great listener and works to make class a great learning environment for everyone. She is very respectful of her teachers and classmates. She works hard to learn and is a dedicated student. She is compassionate and quick to help others.” Awards and Recognition: Anastasia has received the Christian Courtesy Award and has earned her place on the Academic Honor Roll every quarter during Junior High. Civic and Volunteer Involvement: Anastasia has been a Student Ambassador and a member of Builders Club. Athletic Accomplishments: Anastasia earned first place in archery during the Cornhusker State Games, and fifth place at the State NASP Archery Tournament. She is a Brown with a Black Stripe Belt in Taekwondo, and plays on the school volleyball team. Religious Activities: Anastasia attends daily Mass and is an Abide group member. Outside Achievements: Anastasia plays trumpet in Band. Hobbies and outside interests: Her interests include archery, volleyball, spending time with friends, reading, drawing, playing video games, singing, and writing songs.

Kathleen Aschwege, daughter of David and Peg Aschwege, is an 8th-grade student at St. Joseph School. Why was this student nominated? “Kathleen makes our school better with her cheerful positivity. She is so kind and caring towards her classmates. Kathleen is always respectful towards the adults in the school. She is diligent and creative with her homework and school work.” Civic & volunteer involvement: Mission Club; Student Council. Religious activities: Mission Club; Youth Choir. Hobbies & outside interests: Theater and Musical; Fashion; Art.

Jalyn Teichmeier, daughter of Kim and Shane Teichmeier, is an 8 th -grade student at Schoo Middle School. Why was this student nominated? “Whether it is in the classroom, in the halls, in the lunchroom, or on the field or court, Jalyn shows up every day with every intention to be her best. She works hard to bring positive energy to her environment and to be a kind peer - just today I saw her consoling a peer (whom she is not close friends with) when she noticed them crying in the hallway. Jalyn is the epitome of a positive peer role model by the work ethic she shows in everything she does, as well as how she carries herself in adverse situations, she is always leading by example. Jalyn shows us all what it means to give all that we have to give and expect nothing in return. Jalyn inspires us to tackle every day with a fresh and optimistic attitude, knowing that we get what we give. Jalyn is a giver, and it’s time that selflessness is recognized in a big way.” Volunteer at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach. Athletic accomplishments: Member of Schoo Middle School’s 2023-2024 All-City Basketball Championship team. Plays soccer and basketball at Schoo Middle School. Religious activities: member of North American Martyrs Catholic Church. Outside achievements: Played soccer with Pulse; enjoyed dance at Universal Dance Academy. Hobbies, outside interests: plays softball with Nebraska Wave; plays basketball with Nebraska Lasers. Other comments: Is a huge Steph Curry, Caitlin Clark, and Husker basketball fan. In free time, enjoys playing pickleball, riding her bicycle and spending time with family and friends.
Alex Marroquin, son of Lizzette and Nelson Marroquin, is an 8 th -grade student at North American Martyrs School. Why was this student nominated? “Alex is a self-driven, determined student who always approaches each day with positivity and a willingness to help in any way he can.” Civic & volunteer involvement: “Through his activities in Boy Scouts, Alex has helped in various activities, from collecting debris around the neighborhood, to making and delivering packages for people in need. He was also a Student Council member.” Religious activities: “Alex is a Mass server, and always steps up to serve when needed. He likes to learn about God.” Outside achievements: “He is a member of Chess Club and has a passion for competition.” Hobbies: “He likes to ride bikes, enjoys baking, and likes playing games online with his friends and cousins.” Other comments: “Alex always stays busy doing chores around the house and with his homework, and he helps elderly family members when they need an extra hand. One of his greatest pleasures is eating chocolate! Alex is a sharp kid and his family is very proud of him.”
Junior Lopez Tema, son of Josue Lopez Palacios, Hilda Strehle and Andrew Strehle, is an 8th-grade student at Park Middle School.
Why was this student nominated?  Junior is a native Spanish speaker from Guatemala. He has made amazing progress in learning English and works hard to maintain good grades in all his classes. He is friendly and outgoing to teachers and students.
Athletics and activities: At Park, he participates in soccer, basketball, and track. He also plays trumpet in the band. Outside of school, he is involved in his church.
 Max Kumke, son of Todd and Jenny Kumke, is a 7th-grade student at North American Martyrs School.
Awards & Recognition: Student Council, Honor Roll, 3rd place in Science Fair.
Why was this student nominated? Max serves as an excellent example to classmates. He is hard-working, follows directions, participates in class, and frequently volunteers to help.
Civic & volunteer involvement: Tutoring, volunteer at Food Bank.
Athletic accomplishments: Participated in basketball.
Religious activities: Mass server, Stations.
Hobbies: Basketball.

Thatcher Plugge, son of Amanda and Brian Plugge, is an 8th-grade student at Pound Middle School.

Why was the student nominated?:  Thatcher is an excellent scholar and is kind to his peers. He works very hard to please adults and fellow students. He is always respectful, very humble, and is a joy to have in class.

Civic and Volunteer Involvement:  Thatcher is on the Pound Student Council, serving as vice president.  He enjoys a good leadership opportunity.  Every Thursday he wears a Hawaiian shirt, to match his laid-back attitude and celebration that the weekend is almost here. 

Athletic Accomplishments: Thatcher really enjoys playing tennis, just for FUN!  He has recently picked up pickleball with his brother.

Outside Achievements:  Thatcher plays the double-string bass.  He has been a member of YES and JYO, select orchestras in Lincoln.  He also plays in the Pound Select Jazz Band, earning top scores and placing in state competitions.

Hobbies and Outside Interests:  Thatcher enjoys spending his free time with family and friends.  He enjoys online video games with friends in other states.   Dungeons and Dragons is a favorite, spending hours eating and socializing with his friends.  Since early childhood, Thatcher has enjoyed LEGOS.  He still enjoys building and creating; he has now started to enjoy the art of sorting and organizing his Lego collection.  

Other Comments: Thatcher is a really neat kiddo, and we could not be prouder of him. 

 Eli Siebert, son of Tina Siebert, is an 8th-grade student at St. Patrick School.
Why was this student nominated? He does a lot of really great things in the classroom and out. He is responsible and takes care of his tasks without reminders. He is willing to put himself out there and try new things. He relates well with his classmates and gets along with everyone. He participates in classes and is a lot of fun to teach.
Awards & Recognition: Achieved honor roll status, received several ROCK award nominations from school for going above and beyond expectations, nominated and attended NHRI Leadership Institute.
Civic and Volunteer Involvement: Volunteers for annual St. Patrick Festival; frequently attends cancer awareness fundraisers.
Athletic Accomplishments: Member of school bowling team and achieved a tie for first place among Lincoln schools; plays flag football.
Religious Activities: Altar server and lector at school Masses.
Hobbies and Other Interests: Has played piano since second grade; enjoys family activities with cousins; playing video games with friends and being outdoors.
Additional Information: Always willing to help out his mom around the house and get involved in projects with his grandpa.
 
Yara Nassrat, daughter of Marwa Al-Naimi and Farid Nassrat, is an 8th-grade student at Park Middle School.
Why was this student nominated?  Yara Nassrat is a great role model for her peers at Park Middle School. She shows kindness and respect and she greets all of her friends and teachers with a warm smile. Yara exhibits a growth mindset whenever she encounters challenging problems and she never gives up. Yara is a strong member of the Park community. She is involved with AVID and enjoys the field trips where she can go to elementary schools to mentor younger students. Next year, she is excited to join a high school soccer team. The teachers and staff at Park are proud of who Yara is as a person and the choices she makes in and out of the classroom.
Jessa Hamilton, daughter of Natasha Kraus and Joe Hamilton, is an 8th-grade student at St. Patrick Catholic School.
Why was this student nominated? Jessa was nominated because she is a talented individual with a generous heart. She is a responsible student and a good example of what it looks like to use time wisely. She knows classroom routines well and helps keep them in place. She completes schoolwork efficiently and submits thoughtful, quality work. She is an analytical thinker, and often notices things that others may miss. Jessa enjoys interacting with younger students and often volunteers to help them.
Awards & Recognition: 1st place in 7th-grade science fair.
Civic and Volunteer Involvement: Has volunteered at Lincoln Children’s Zoo and Emerald Nursing and Rehab Lancaster.
Athletic Accomplishments: Is a member of the St. Patrick School volleyball and track teams.
Religious Activities: Reads the Bible frequently.
Outside Achievements: Keeps busy with a part-time job.
Hobbies and Other Interests: Enjoys ice skating, volleyball, and video games.

Tessa McInerney, daughter of Allen and Lisa McInerney, is a 7th-grade student at North American Martyrs School.
Why was this student nominated? Tessa was nominated because of her amazing work ethic and leadership.
Civic and volunteer involvement: Collected donations for charities at her birthday parties. Served lunches at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach.
Athletic accomplishments: Member of the competitive dance team at Greater Impact Dance Studio.
Religious activities: Sings at Mass. Participates in 40 Days for Life, Prayer Vigils, Life Chain, and Walk for Life.
Hobbies and outside interests: Acting, dancing, singing, reading, watching cooking shows.April

Travion Johnson, son of Victoria and Drew Edmond, is a 7th-grade at Pound Middle School.

Why was this student nominated? Travion is a kind and considerate student. Each day, he demonstrates kindness in his interactions with peers, no matter their social standing. Trey is always willing to lend a helping hand to his classmates and teachers. He completes high-quality work and seeks information/opportunities to learn new things. 

Awards and Recognition – Trey has maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher throughout his middle school years and regularly puts in extra effort to ensure that his grades reflect his hard work and dedication to school. His teachers recognize him frequently for being a standout student. He is also a member of a school group that focuses on new ideas to implement at Pound.

Civic and Volunteer involvement – This past January, Trey was selected to participate in the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Rally. He fulfilled the role of reading a write-up about the historic song “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” which was sung during the Civil Rights Era in the 1950’s.

Athletic accomplishments – Trey enjoys playing football and basketball, and currently plays AAU basketball through Supreme. He plays flag football through the YMCA, and will soon be starting a spring season of 7v7 football through Lincoln Youth Football. Each day before his practices and/or games, Trey commits himself to a home workout to focus on enhancing his skills in each of these sports. He has developed so much throughout the years, and was a phenomenal leader on the teams he was a part of In 6th grade. He won a knockout contest at Pound and was then selected to participate in a championship knockout contest at a Lincoln Southeast basketball game, competing with other middle schoolers throughout Lincoln..

Hobbies and outside interests – Trey enjoys playing family sports games, drawing, video games, spending time with his younger brothers, and making his household laugh.

 

Other comments – Trey is such a wonderful role model for those around him. He has always stood up for what’s right and encourages others around him to be themselves. His sense of humor and positive attitude keep everyone moving forward and enjoying the ups and downs of life. We are so proud of the young man he’s growing into !

Chelsea Billiouxe, daughter of Didier Billiouxe and Alyssa Roeder, is an 8th-grade student at Blessed Sacrament School.
Why was this student nominated?
Chelsea is an enthusiastic student who pushes herself to excel and succeed. Additionally, she frequently volunteers and steps up in class.
Civic & volunteer involvement: Cleans veterans’ headstones.
Athletic accomplishments: Competes in volleyball.
Religious activities: Reader at Mass.
Hobbies & outside interests: Archery Club.  

 

Carter Aksamit, son of Crystal Aksamit, is a 7th-grade student at Saint John the Apostle School.

Why was this student nominated?  Carter is a mature, responsible student, often showing kindness towards other students. He is a confident learner and asks questions to better understand information. He is cheerful and helpful in the classroom, and he is a valued friend. Carter shows a love of learning outside the classroom.

Awards & Recognition: Carter has been on the JETS Honor Roll, received the Saint John Berchmanns’ Award, and is a past Jetsetter Award winner.

Civic and Volunteer Involvement: Carter volunteered during the YMCA Turkey

Athletic Accomplishments: He is a member of the Bucks Gold and the Saint John’s boys basketball teams.

Religious Activities: Carter attends daily Mass, participates as an altar server, and

regularly receives the sacrament of Confession.

Hobbies & Outside Interests: Carter loves hanging out with friends, online

gaming, playing basketball, swimming, and football. He enjoys world history and

is interested in aerospace engineering and aviation. Carter has attended several

airshows in Lincoln, the Sound of Speed Airshow in St. Joseph, Mo., and an airshow

 

at Miramar Airforce Base in San Diego, Calif.

 Navy Reisinger, daughter of Jonathan and Alicia Reisinger, is a 6th-grade student at Park Middle School.
Why was this student nominated? Navy Reisinger is an exceptional student and leader. She excels in her academics at Park and puts forth extraordinary effort and quality in her work. Navy is reliable and always willing to give a helping hand. 
Interests and hobbies: She enjoys writing her own stories, reading, and drawing. She was able to showcase her love for the arts by participating in the Park Middle School play titled “The Wind in the Willows”. Outside of school, she participates in a Youth Council group. 
Favorite classes: Navy enjoys several of her classes at Park; Healthy Living and Math are two of her favorites. 
Future: She has dreams of one day becoming a surgeon.

 Atley Janecek, daughter of Joel and Torri Janecek, is an 8th-grade student at Lincoln Lutheran Middle/High School.

Awards: High Honor roll each semester at Lincoln Lutheran.

Why was the student nominated? She is an extremely hard worker, a great classmate, and a genuinely good kid. She never shies away from a challenge and is always willing to work with any of her classmates. She uses her time productively and always sets a good example for others.

Ava Colee, daughter of Ashley and Brad Colee, is a 6th-grade student at Saint John the Apostle School.

Why this student was nominated?:  Ava is thoughtful and attentive to the needs of others, consistently takes responsibility for her work and regularly strives to do her best. She is attentive, bright, cooperative, conscientious on making sure her school work is done well and in a timely manner, and is gentle but with a drive to complete projects put in front of her. Ava is an outstanding student who is selfless and caring. Even in the face of adversity, Ava is level-headed, patient, and kind to all those around her. Ava is a good and genuine friend. She is dedicated to her studies, tries her best always, and her smile lights up a room.

Civic and volunteer involvement: Ava is a member of Student Ambassadors, a member of Builders Club, and is actively involved in school and church activities.

Santino R. Macias, son of Dionray and Teresa Macias, is an 8th-grade student at St. Patrick School.
Why was this student nominated? Santino is a highly-involved student who participates in classes. He asks good questions and is helpful to other students when he understands something well and can share that knowledge. Santino is a curious thinker and often wonders about where things came from or how things may have been. He applies his fascination with the past to the present, often creating good outcomes for himself through hard work and determination. He’s a good friend to others and a positive role model for younger students in the school. Santino is a great classroom citizen.
Awards: Honor roll each year since 2nd grade, St. Patrick activities award 2023, St. Mary’s Student of the Week.
Civic and Volunteer involvement: 6-year “Grinch Fest” volunteer with Food Bank, Veterans’ Parade participant.

Nick Baires, son of Lesva Kobryn and Jose Baires, is a 7th-grade student at Park Middle School.
Why was the student nominated? Nick consistently gives his best effort. His work is detailed and it always exceeds expectations. Nick is a student that teachers can depend on when they need someone who is reliable, trustworthy, and kind to others. Nick has a genuine passion for learning that inspires his teachers and his classmates. He is a natural leader in all that he does. Nick’s favorite school subject is math. 
Activities, athletics: He plays the saxophone and was a member of the Park Middle School soccer team as well as the basketball team. He participates in the Educational Talent Search through UNL and he is the president of the Park Green Team. 
Future: Nick has dreams of pursuing a career in the field of computer science.
 

Brielle Castens, daughter of Aaron & Maria Castens, is a 7th-grade student at Lincoln Lutheran Middle/High School.

Why the student was nominated:  Brielle is an academically conscientious student who is hard working and an excellent example for her peers.  She is polite and kind-hearted.

Volunteer involvement: Vacation Bible School leader, server at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach.

Athletic accomplishments: Gymnastics medalist at various levels, variety of places in track sprints and relays.

Religious activities: Confirmation, mission trips, Middle School Ministry.

Hobbies and outside interests: gymnastics, track, baking, band, friends.

Jared Ehlers, son of Jason and Colette Ehlers, grade 8, North American Martyrs School.
Why was this student nominated? He is polite, friendly to peers and adults, a dedicated student who works hard to succeed, and is a positive leader.
Civic and volunteer involvement: Helps serve meals to veterans at the Victory Park veterans’ residence; and helps each year  with the Rebecca Miller Memorial Shamrock Showdown hockey tournament for ages 8 and under.
Athletic accomplishments: Member of Lincoln Junior Stars bantam hockey team and the Lincoln Prodigy Legends 13U baseball team. Played for the Police/Sandhills team in the Lincoln Youth Football League.
Religious  activities: Member of North American Martyrs Parish, where he is an altar boy and participates in liturgical duties.
Hobbies: Photography and video games.
Brielle Gyhra, daughter of Laurie and Wesley Gyhra, is a 6th-grade student at Saint John the Apostle School.
Why was she nominated? The Middle School Team nominated Brielle because she is dedicated to her studies and asks thoughtful questions. She is a hard worker, helpful in the classroom, very kind to classmates and staff members, usually greets others with a smile, and is very responsible and respectful.
Awards: Principal’s Honor Roll (A’s in all classes).
Civic and volunteer Involvement: Helps with church cleaning, and donates toys to the children’s ward at CHI Health Saint Elizabeth Hospital.
Athletic accomplishments: BElevé Dance Company team member, Lincoln Midwest Ballet Company (LMBC) “Nutcracker” production cast member, 1st place in girls’ 400-meter race, 3rd place in girls’ 200-meter race, 1st place in girls’ mile.
Religious activities: Attends daily Mass, member of Saint John’s Youth Choir, participant in Totus Tuus.
Outside achievements: Received a top award for her jewelry entry in the Custer County Fair open class, and a dance scholarship in hip-hop.
Hobbies & outside interests: Enjoys hanging out with her friends, sewing, reading, baking, and cheering for the Husker football and Husker volleyball teams.
